You Start- use these books to set-up a plan and organize
your content...all of this will save you huge amounts of time
in the long run.
Building
a Web Site for Dummies - offers a high-level look at
site design, navigation and content planning and other essential
topics. While some HTML basics are covered, I would get
a separate book on this. The nice thing is that it includes
trial versions of graphics design and web site editing applications,
such as Dreamweaver.
Planning
Your Internet Marketing Strategy- step-by-step on how
to construct a web sit e with primarily e-commerce and sales
objectives.

Dreamweaver
4 for Dummies - a great book for beginners who want
the basics. Book also includes CD with 30-day free trial
versions of Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator and other
tools.

2002: A Beginner's Guide - the
best guide according to several web developers. However, I
have to admit that I don't use FrontPage nor GoLive (Mac alternative);
Dreamweaver is my choice.

4 for the World Wide Web: Visual...- by Elizabeth Castro,
a great author from the San Francisco Bay Area. Easy and
brief descriptions, aided by pictures of where the code
goes and how it looks, makes this book a great tutorial
on HTML even for more advanced webmasters.
The
Complete Idiot's Guide to Adobe
Photoshop 6 - written by Robert Stanley, a self-taught
artist. Photoshop is a powerful application for designing
most all of the graphics you'll need for your website. However,
it can be intimidating. This book focuses on the fundamentals
that beginner's will need to get started easily.
PHP
and MySQL Web Development
- Shows how to combine the PHP scripting language with the
MySQL database to produce interactive web sites. The guide
provides examples that demonstrate tasks such as authenticating
users, constructing a shopping cart, generating PDF documents
and images dynamically, sending and managing email, facilitating
user discussions, and managing content. Significant attention
is paid to the importance of security.
